As part of the merge of Telia’s mobile platform for B2B-customers and the broadband portal “Get” into a single platform. My role was to develop the design system/component library as well as create the landing page for the service.
The design system I was introduced to was already quite structured and high level of detail. However, there were improvements to be made in regard to the components accessibility/usability for impaired users as well as some adjustments in-between components for consistency.
To make Telia’s design system more inclusive and accessible for people with various disabilities—whether visual, auditory, cognitive, or motor-related—we followed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) A key focus was on ensuring content was Perceivable.
For Color Contrast, we used the Contrast Checker in Figma to verify that the content met WCAG standards, ensuring it was easy to read and navigate for users with visual impairments like color blindness or low vision.
For Focus States and Font Sizes, we made sure that interactive elements had visible focus states, such as color changes or borders, to help keyboard users easily see which component they were interacting with. We also made font sizes flexible, allowing users to adjust text to suit their individual needs.
We decided that each component should have at least two owners, ideally a designer and a developer, to ensure different perspectives are considered. We also included a description section to minimize the risk of misplacement and ensure both design and functionality are aligned.
